Save the Last Bullet (2022)
San Diego, California
Heidi’s father, Willi Langbein, was 13 in 1943 when the Nazis took him away from his parents under the pretext of protecting him from Allied bombing. Instead, he was molded into cannon fodder for use against the Russian Army. He was sent to the Eastern Front in the last days of the war, never expected to return alive. Having survived against all odds, he gives an eye-witness account of the devastating effects of war from his unique perspective as a child soldier.
A Year in Ink (2021)
San Diego, California
A chapter of Heidi’s manuscript was published in September 2021 in the San Diego Writer’s Ink Anthology Volume 14, “A Year In Ink”. Her piece in the anthology is titled “Red Dawn”. It is Heidi’s father Willi’s account of the morning after Kristallnacht in 1938, when thousands of Jewish-owned shops and hundreds of synagogues were burnt to the ground throughout Germany, as seen through his eight-year-old eyes.
